Classic Car Back Carrier Instructions

We have put together the Classic Car Back Carrier from PackRight as a way to get you the benefit of a car top carrier along with a car back carrier in one cargo bag. Car back carriers allow you to haul gear without aerodynamic drag, saving you $$ on gas.

DIRECTIONS

The (2) Car Clip Strap Sets are attached to the top side of your rear door by the J-hook Clips. They clip over the thin metal part at the top of the door and fit between the door and the roof as the door closes. The loop that each strap forms holds the Classic Carrier in place. The loops should be placed between 24 and 28 inches apart.  Adjust the strap/loop length so the packed cargo carrier will hang just above the rear bumper, but still below the rear window.

It is easiest to pack the bag on the ground and then lift it up into the cradle created by the two loops. The opening of the bag should be positioned upward. The fold and bend closure of the Classic will prevent water from coming inside and you will have the benefit of being able to access your gear during your trip. Don't position the packed bag where it will block the rear window while you are driving.

With every Classic you get a set of four StrapRight Straps. Each strap is made up of two pieces connected through a center buckle. Get one strap and unthread one strap piece from the center buckle. Now you will have two strap pieces, each with a sewn loop on the end. Run the loop of one strap piece through the loop of the other. Then, thread the strap end of one strap piece through its own loop. These steps connect the two strap pieces so that you have one long strap.

Now, run this strap around the inside of the rear door and around the Classic bag, connecting the center buckle to the loose end, and cinching the strap tight like a belt around your waist. The rear door is then closed over the strap. We recommend at least one or two long straps be shut inside the rear door and wrapped around the width of the bag. We make the straps very long so they work with all vehicles.  If you find them too long, you can trim the ends (at an angle so they are easy to thread and melt the trimmed ends to prevent fraying).

Test drive your vehicle with the Classic fully loaded prior to your trip to ensure correct installation. Please inspect the Classic Carrier's attachment, the Car Clips' attachment, and the clear view through the rear window. Check your carrier's straps several times along the way.

Also for safety, be careful not to let the straps or bag hang on or near your vehicle's exhaust pipe.  We suggest you limit the weight of the carrier to 100 lbs.
