PackRight Cargo Saddlebag

The Car Back Carrier was developed and patented by PackRight (US Patent 7,475,799). The idea was to develop an easy to load, easy to carry cargo storage solution that did not create any aerodynamic drag on the vehicle. It was to have the same great features as car top carrier cargo bags, but with these added benefits. The PackRight Cargo Saddlebag is the result. It is an inexpensive and easy to use substitute for hitch mount cargo boxes and car top carrier cargo bags.

The PackRight Cargo Saddlebag attaches to the back end of your vehicle's luggage rack. It can attach to a cross bar or to your vehicles side rails. Because the Cargo Saddlebag  hangs on the back of the vehicle, it doesn't get hit with the wind and the rain like a roof mounted carrier.  It is so much easier to load because it is low.  The Saddlebag has a plastic insert that fits in the bottom of the bag to provide strength and structure.

The Cargo Saddlebag doesn't cause aerodynamic drag because it is located behind the car, saving you big money on gas (car top cargo systems will lower your gas mileage 5 mpg on average). The bag holds 14 cu ft of gear-the size of a medium car trunk. If you are really overloaded, put a car top carrier on your roof and a Cargo Saddlebag on the rear.

The Cargo Saddlebag has a handle on each side of the bag so that it can be easily lifted off of the vehicle and taken right into hotel rooms etc. The bag's zipper protection flap keeps water out, however, if you would like to be 100% sure, we offer the PackRight waterproof liner as an option. The combination of the Cargo Saddlebag and the liner will guarantee that your gear stays dry.

The Cargo Saddlebag is designed for duffel bags, suitcases, tents, sleeping bags, coats, and other relatively soft and light weight items. Please avoid coolers or other heavy or hard items. If you have a few harder items, they can be packed in the center of the bag, surrounded by the softer items-no problem.

The Cargo Saddlebag comes with (1) long 2"W strap and (2) 1"W straps. Following are the instructions for mounting the Cargo Saddlebag to your vehicle and securing all of the straps.

Mounting Directions

1-Attach the two primary side straps to vehicle luggage rack, making sure the pads are face down on the top rear corner of the vehicle. Adjust the strap glides so that no excess strap material will flap in the wind. Excess strap material can also be cut off and the edge burned for no fraying.

2-Adjust the straps so that the bottom of the bag is level with the top of the bumper. Keep the Saddlebag and straps away from the hot exhaust system. Accessories such as the door, window, wiper, etc. may not be operable while the Saddlebag is attached. Load limit for the Saddlebag is the lesser of 100 lbs and the weight limit of the vehicles luggage rack.

3-Run the (2) one-inch wide straps through the guides at the bottom of the bag and attach to the tow hitch, bumper, or underneath the vehicle.

4-The long two-inch wide strap can be optionally used in one of two ways:

a. Run it through the guide under the bag, up and over the top of the vehicle, under the front luggage cross bar, and back down to snap into its other end. This configuration will help to distribute the weight of the Saddlebag evenly across the luggage rack.

b. Run it along the inside width of the vehicles rear door, shutting the door over the strap. Continue around the girth of the bag, tightening the strap like a belt around your waste. This configuration will provide a back-up point of attachment to the vehicle.  Excess strap material can be cut off and the edge burned for no fraying.

5-Test drive your vehicle with the Saddlebag fully loaded prior to your trip to ensure correct installation. Please inspect the Saddlebags attachment, the luggage racks attachment to the vehicle, and the clear view through the rear window.

NOTE: Emergency access to the rear door and/or window of your vehicle will be extremely limited when using this product. There should never be occupants in the vehicle that require access through the rear door while this product is in use. Make sure that you have a clear view through the rear window before driving.
