Car Clip Strap Set Up Guide
For Vehicles WITHOUT A Roof Rack
The Car Clip Strap Set works to attach any PackRight Car Top Carrier to a vehicle without a luggage rack. The Set is comprised of (2) straps with a one inch wide, rubber coated steel hook on each end (Fig 1). Each hook has a 5/8” opening (Fig 2). With the Car Clip Strap Set, you can have the same cargo carrying options as a vehicle with a luggage rack.
Connecting The Car Clip Strap Set
The Car Clip Straps require a sturdy ledge inside of the car door opening for connection. You can usually attach to the body mounted weather molding around the door frame (Fig 3). You can also use a rain gutter, a metal ledge (Fig 4), or the outside of the weather molding itself.

The following photos (Fig 5,6,7) show different angles of the car clip when it is attached under the weather molding itself.

Each strap consists of two strap pieces connected through a center buckle. Unthread the short strap piece from the center buckle and thread each separated strap piece through the d-rings or handles on each side of the car top carrier. Bring the two ends together over the top of the bag and rethread the short strap back through the center buckle (Fig 8). Position the clips in the open door frame and tighten the straps appropriately to secure the load.

Close the door of the vehicle over the clips/straps to secure them in place (Fig 9). It is recommended to position the straps at least 20" apart (Fig 10). Do not attach the straps to the d-rings on the sides of the roof bag for this will cause damage.

Final Adjustments for Straps
Each strap has a plastic tri-glide (Fig 11) to secure the extra length of the strap so that it doesn’t flap in the wind. Always check straps before driving and tie off any excess length (Fig 12). If the straps are too long, cut off the extra length and melt the cut end to prevent fraying.

Notes
The Car Clip Strap Set comes standard with the Sport Jr. Car Top Carrier. All other carriers require the Car Clip Strap Set to be purchased as an accessory item.
The PackRight Car Clip Straps will work on most vehicles. Look closely at this page and check your vehicle for potential mounting points. If you have a minivan with a sliding door these clips will not work.
The Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad (Fig 13) is recommended when using the Car Clip Strap Set to help prevent the cargo bag from shifting on the roof of your vehicle.
If you purchase the Car Clip Strap Set for the vehicle that you are driving now, and later get a vehicle with a luggage rack-no problem. Just remove the Car Clips from the ends of the straps and use the straps to attach the carrier to the luggage rack (Fig 14).

It's a good idea to do a short test drive before you embark on your trip. It's important to continue to check the straps regularly throughout your travels.
